Winter is Coming
In honor of the 7th season of my favorite show (Game of Thrones) being just around the corner, I've decided to name my first blog post after the famous words of House Stark. Like House Stark and many other Westerosi families, winter represents an impending doom for me as well. However, my winter has less to do with an army of the dead led by White Walkers and more to do with how in Seven Hells I'm going to find a real job now that I've graduated college. I've been in Charlotte all summer working an internship, but when that's over, Winter arrives and I'm not sure I'm ready for the change in weather.
Anyway, I'm not here to complain about my life, I'm here to educate the masses. The real purpose of this here blog post is to give seven (7) predictions for the penultimate season of the show I love so dearly. So without further ado, here are my Game of Thrones Season 7 predictions.
1. Daenerys and Jon Snow WILL NOT marry.
I'll admit, at the end of Season 6 I thought that it was practically a given that Dany and Jon would have to get hitched to unite the Seven Kingdoms once again, but after further review I just don't see it happening anymore. It makes sense on paper sure, but there's already one weird incestual relationship on the show, I'm not exactly pushing for another one. Plus if Bran is going to end up telling Jon about his real parentage I don't think Jon would go for marrying his aunt. He doesn't seem like that type of guy. Jon and Dany don't need to marry each other for the story to have a happy ending, they just need to respect each other, which I feel is inevitable.
2. Arya is bringing the pain in Season 7
Arya has been my favorite character since the very beginning and if she were to die I don't think I could finish watching the show, but I think she's built up too much plot armor thus far to get killed off arbitrarily (fingers crossed). Anyone who watches the show knows that Arya has a list of people she wants to kill in order to exact vengeance for the betrayal and violence her family has endured, I'm thinking she crosses off AT LEAST two names off this list because of my next prediction.
3. ARYA IS GONNA KILL CERSEI (and The Mountain)
Okay this is bit of a hot take, especially since Arya seems to be headed north and it's all but confirmed that Jaimie will probably end up killing Cersei "Mad King style" (see "Valonqar"), but a guy can dream can't he. She has the motive, she has the ability and it would just make my day to see Arya take down The Mountain and the Queen while disguised as someone harmless. It most likely won't happen, but it's the story arc the deserves.
4. The Return of Gendry
We haven't see our favorite Baratheon bastard since Davos sent him rowing across some body of water from Dragonstone, and if we've learned anything from 6 seasons of Game of Thrones it's that if a character wasn't killed on-screen, they're probably still alive. I'm not exactly sure what role Gentry would have to play if he returned, but it would be a cool fan service to see our guy back in action. Hopefully to reunite with Arya.
5. CLEGANE BOWL
If you're as much of a GoT nerd as I am (probably not) then you've seen the still images taken from the 2nd Season 7 trailer that show a man that resembles The Hound drawing a sword in a place that resembles the Dragon Pit in King's Landing. What else could this mean but Sandor and Gregor are about to throw down for all the marbles? Fans have been waiting for this for a long time and the show runners know it. Let's hope that we finally get to see Sandor get his revenge on his big brother.
6. RIP Tormund, RIP Davos
We haven't had a beloved character ripped a way from us in quite some time unless you count Wun Wun the giant. GoT has taught us all that nothing good ever lasts, so I wouldn't be surprised to see fan favorites Tormund Giantsbane and Davos Seaworth but the dust this season. Tormund is an awesome fighter and offers some quality comic relief while Davos has grown to be the Hand of the King we all wish we had. It'll be tough to lose either of them, but I'm prepared for the worst.
7. Nymeria Returns!
We last saw our long lost she-wolf in Season 1 after she bit then-Prince Joffrey. Arya shooed her away so she wouldn't be killed and that's the last we ever saw of her, until this season. Maisie Williams, who plays Arya, was seen filming scenes in Canada this past winter and word amongst experts is that they only shoot in Canada when they're filming scenes with direwolves. Hmmmmmm... Food for thought. It would be awesome to have another deadly weapon at Arya's dispense this season as she murders everybody in the name of of the Many Faced God,
Man, writing this got me even more hype so if you want to talk about Game of Thrones please do, it's all I enjoy doing as I wait for unemployment winter. Leave comments about what you think I guess, is that what people do on blogs? I'm new to this so just do whatever you feel like and I'll do the same. I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. I'll probably do a little post-episode review/breakdown/reaction piece once the season gets going, but until then, Valar Morghulis.
